Christian Service Commission
While it is summer and people are away on vacations or at their cottages, the Christian Service Commission is still at work because the needs of people do not go on vacation.
Some of the areas we work in during the summer are: the Baby Pantry – there is still a need for diapers and baby food, On the Rise Bakery – help sell the baked goods before and after Mass and Boxes for the Troops – pack, seal and deliver to the post office the Boxes for our overseas military. Our St. Vincent DePaul Society is still working to help those who need help paying their bills, need food, etc.
A more complete list of our projects throughout the year is:
Lenten Giving Tree, Christmas Giving Tree, Bag Drive during Lent, Eye glass/hearing aid recycling, Right to Life (including Crosses on the Lawn) Boxes for the Troops, On the Rise Bakery (twice a year), Flu inoculations, Franciscan Winter Clothing Drive, 3 Blood Drives a Year, Right to Life Cards/Ornaments, Ladies Tea, Bereavement counseling, Communion to the homebound/Nursing Homes, CPR/AED training, Blood pressure screening, individual counseling with Parish Nurse or Pastoral Minister (when requested).
While this seems like a lot, there is more we could do if we had the help. The Christian Service Commission is a very small group, 6 to 8 people. In order to keep up with what we are doing and do even more, we need people. If you are thinking of finding a way to answer Jesus’ call to help complete the mission He started, as well as being a part of the Mission and Vision of St. Isidore to reach out into the community to serve the People of God, then you want to become a member of the Christian Service Commission. The Commission meets September through May, the 1st Tuesday of each month usually, from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm.
Please, if you can help, call me at the office. If I am not available please leave a message and I will get back to you.
Have a great summer,
