Matthew Todd Hunt was born in the rural parts of Western Kentucky, in the city of Fancy Farm, Ky. Matt attended the Carlisle County School System. Throughout high school, he was involved in the youth group at St. Jerome. It wasn’t until his junior year that he attended a Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) retreat, where he discovered his calling to youth ministry. Throughout college, Matt engaged in many alternative spring breaks to various communities with Catholic Ministry Newman House by helping provide services to those communities. At the Newman House, Matt engaged in many mission trips to New Mexico, Jamaica, & New Orleans. For two summers Matt was involved with a traveling missionary group called Young Disciples, based out the Diocese of Fargo, North Dakota. Young Disciples traveled around North Dakota and provide VBS camps to small, rural based parishes, (most of which were on Native American Reservations.) Through all his mission experiences, Matt fostered a love for serving others and is a well versed traveler.

Matt graduated from Murray State University in May 2007 with a degree in Organizational Communication and minor in Non-Profit & Youth Leadership. After graduating he worked professionally in youth ministry for 6 years in the Diocese of Owensboro where he organized mission trips, retreats, service projects, and youth trips to Conferences such as the National Catholic Youth Conference, (NCYC.) Along with youth ministry, Matt has had years of experience in leading Confirmation Retreats and faith formation programs.

Matt moved up to Michigan where he met and married his wife Sarah. They currently have one daughter, Cecilia Rose, who is one year old. Matt and Sarah met online on Catholic Match and God has written a beautiful love story for them and brought them here to St. Isidore. Matt loves his Catholic faith, family, and the life Christ gave him. Most recently, Matt has been serving at St. Fabian Catholic Church as the High School Youth Minister.

Matt is pretty laid back and an easy going guy. Most of Matt’s friends and family would describe him as hyperactive, faithful, and fun-loving. He’s a coffee addict, comic reader, music lover, and is also a tech geek! In his spare time, he loves being outdoors hiking, food (mostly sampling), and exploring cities. Matt is not only excited to begin a new ministry here at St. Isidore because of his passion for the youth, but he was inspired to make the move from the back woods country to city life.
