This year, as expected, Ash Wednesday will be a little different. We will have five in-person opportunities to receive ashes with three scripture services and two Masses. Keep reading to learn about the changes for this year.
For the health and safety of all gathered, St. Isidore will be offering the distribution of Ashes on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021, with the following modifications:
All those attending service or Mass are required to wear a face covering at all times while in the building.
As instructed from Rome, rather than praying the formula over each person, the priest will bless the ashes and then address all present with one of these formulas found in the Roman Missal: “Repent, and believe in the Gospel” or “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
The priest will then cleanse his hands, put on a face mask, and distribute ashes, using one clean cotton ball per person (without saying anything).
Other ministers will also distribute ashes in the same way, in silence.
For the Reception of Ashes, the assembled will be ushered from their pews, maintaining a distance of six-feet from the next person, as indicated by the marks on the floor.
Registration for a Mass or Service of Ashes is required. Please do so by simply clicking the desired button below.
