The Canaanite woman in today’s Gospel calls Jesus to recognize that his mission is to and for all people. She opens his mind to acceptance and inclusion. Our faith is called to be the same way. We are called to accept and include all people because we are all children of God. God does not make distinctions, choose one person above others, or take only people with blue eyes into the kingdom. If we are truly people of faith we cannot accept one kind of person and reject another. We do not always have to like others but we are called to love others. Tolerance and not bias, acceptance and not rejection, inclusion and not leaving others out are the marks of a Christian. How can I model my life on Jesus when I turn my back on my brothers and sisters who are not like me?
