How to grow in your ability to love others
Thursday of the 24th Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s gospel, Jesus is at the house of the pharisee, Simon, when A sinful woman enters and washes her feet with his tears, kisses, and places ointment on his feet. Simon doesn’t understand why Jesus would have anything to do with this woman.
The contrast is between the self-righteousness pharisee, and the repentant woman. The woman divulges her sinfulness, opens herself up to forgiveness, and has great love for Jesus through this. Love is the consequence of being forgiven.
We need to set aside self-righteousness, acknowledge our sinfulness, and open ourselves up to God’s forgiveness. We will then grow in our love for God and our ability to love others.
