The child that has the highest place in a mom’s heart
Wednesday of the 23rd Week in Ordinary Time
Often, in a mother’s eyes, the child who has the highest place in her heart is the one who needs her the most.
In today’s Gospel, we read of St. Luke’s version of the Beatitudes. Luke does not spiritualize the the Beatitudes like Matthew does. He uses lines like, “Blessed are you who are poor now.”
This shows God’s preferential option for the poor. It’s not that they are better in his eyes, it’s that they need him more.
We are called to imitate God’s love, so we should have a place in our hearts for the poor and marginalized.
