This is why fasting is an important part of Lent

Thursday after Ash Wednesday

Rather than giving things up for Lent, many people say they are just going to do more positive things. Fr. Ron says in today’s homily that while there is some value to that, fasting should be a part of all of our Lenten practices. Today’s readings remind us of the importance of fasting and how it teaches us compassion.

The kind of fasting that Jesus wants is to share our bread with the hungry to cloth the naked when we see them, and share our home. Fasting teaches compassion and empathy with those who must fast all of the time because of lack of food, clothing, or shelter.
