What you are doing when you protect yourself from being hurt

Thursday of the Third Week of Lent

In today’s homily, Fr. Ron reflects on what it means to have a hardened heart. Many want to protect themselves against being hurt so they cut themselves off from the world around. They don’t show love because people hurt them or show compassion because people take advantage of them.

Jesus could easily feel this in today’s gospel where he heals a deaf mute yet is criticized for it. This obviously does not stop him from continuing to do good.

When we shut ourselves off against others because we are hurt, we are also shutting out joy and therefore the Lord. We need to welcome Jesus into our lives because He has the power to overcome all of the evil
