In Luke’s Gospel passage for the fourth Sunday of Advent, Mary has a surprise visit by the angel Gabriel who greets her, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you…. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.”
Although Mary was “greatly troubled” not yet having “relations with any man” in courage and faith, she agreed to God’s plan for her to bring new life into the world. A very impactful decision for such a young woman indeed!
This weekend as we hear the account of Mary’s agreement in faith, we honor all Mothers-to-Be with a special prayer of blessing. May they be comforted in the abiding presence of God as they nurture the amazing miracle of life unfolding within them.
