There is so much awesome power in the Holy Spirit! And on Pentecost, the birthday of the Church, we celebrate that power. Power, at its simplest, is the ability to do something, to act, to accomplish. Another way is that we all have the ability to do something, to act, to accomplish, but we don’t always choose to act rather than not just stand idly by and let injustice happen. Our power in the world must be shaped by our power in the Spirit.
This same power is what led the apostles to begin the Church on Pentecost over 2000 years ago. They started something new… something that I’m sure was met with great resistance just as new ideas often are today. But God is ~always~ new and refreshing. God is a God of the New, and If we are not starting something new are we in line with God?
Just as we are celebrating the new beginning of the Sunday Night Mass initiative, how can you use that same power of the Spirit to start something new in your life? Or, how can you support others who are working hard to make a positive change in the world by starting something new?
