Each year, the Church invites us into the heart of our faith through three holy days unlike any other—the Sacred Triduum. More than a series of liturgies, the Triduum is one continuous act of worship, unfolding the mystery of Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection. It is our opportunity not simply to remember these sacred events, but to enter into them.
The journey begins on Holy Thursday with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7pm. Here, we recall the gift of the Eucharist and the priesthood, as Jesus humbly washes the feet of His disciples and offers Himself as spiritual food.
One of the most powerful moments of this liturgy is the washing of the feet. In biblical times, this was a task reserved for servants, yet at the Last Supper, Christ takes on this role Himself, kneeling before His disciples, even those who would fail or betray Him. In doing so, He reveals the very heart of God: a love that stoops down, serves, and gives itself completely. Our ritual is more than a reenactment; it is a call. Jesus tells His disciples, “As I have done for you, you should also do.” The washing of the feet symbolizes our call to be Christ-like to others, embracing humility, serving with compassion, tenderness and generosity.
The liturgy continues in a quiet, moving procession as the Blessed Sacrament is carried to the altar of repose. We are invited to remain in prayer, keeping watch with Christ in the garden.
On Good Friday, we gather in solemn reverence for the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion at 1:30pm. The stark simplicity of this day speaks volumes. We encounter the power of Christ’s sacrifice through the proclamation of the Passion, the Solemn Intercessions, the veneration of the Cross, and Holy Communion. As we approach the Cross, we bring our own burdens and unite them with His saving love.
Then, as darkness falls on Holy Saturday, we kindle new fire at the Easter Vigil beginning at 8:30pm—the most beautiful and profound liturgy of the entire year. From the light of the Paschal Candle to the rich tapestry of Scripture readings, from the blessing of water to the celebration of Baptism and the joyful return of the “Alleluia,” we witness the triumph of light over darkness, life over death. Christ is risen—and everything changes.
This year, our celebration of the Easter Vigil will be especially joyful as more than 30 Elect and Candidates from our parish community receive the Easter Sacraments. Through Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist, they will be fully initiated into the life of the Church. Their journey of faith, prayer, and conversion has led them to this sacred night, and their “yes” is a powerful reminder to all of us of the new life Christ offers. As they enter the waters of Baptism and gather at the Lord’s Table for the first time, we are invited to renew our own baptismal promises and rejoice in the ever-new life of the Church.
The Sacred Triduum is not something to observe from a distance. It is an invitation—to walk with Christ, to pray deeply, and to be renewed in the mystery of His love.
Come and experience these holy days. Come and be transformed.
