Fr. Sahaya Arul Alex

Priest in soldium

Fr. Sahaya Arul Alex was born in the village of Azhickal in Tamil Nadu, India. He comes from a humble fishing family and grew up with his twin sister, older brother, and loving parents. Though his upbringing was modest, he recalls his childhood with joy and gratitude.

His vocation to the priesthood began in second grade, inspired by a compassionate priest named Fr. Sathyamurthy, whose care for the poor left a lasting impression. Serving as an altar boy, Fr. Alex spent time learning from him, which planted the seed of his calling.

In 2004, shortly after the tsunami devastated his village, Fr. Alex joined the Society of the Catholic Apostolate. His formation took him across several regions of India, where he studied philosophy and theology. He was ordained on May 7, 2018, and served as a teacher, school administrator, and associate pastor in various dioceses throughout Tamil Nadu.

In February 2023, Fr. Alex came to the United States and began his ministry at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica. He later served at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Utica, Michigan, from July 2023 through June 2025. As of July 1, 2025, he is honored to serve the Disciples Unleashed Family of Parishes.

Fr. Alex is deeply grateful to God for guiding him throughout his journey and for the many people who have supported him with love, prayer, and encouragement.
