Suggested Prayer: We thank you, Beloved Mother, for your courage as you stood beneath your dying Child to comfort Him on the Cross. As our Savior drew His last breath, you became a wonderful Mother to all of us; you became the Blessed Mother of the world. We know that you love us more than our earthly parents do. We implore you to be our advocate before the Throne of Mercy and Grace so that we can truly become your children. We thank you for Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer, and we thank Jesus for giving you to us. Please pray for us, Mother. Amen.
Suggested Activity: Read Did You Know? article below and meditate on Mary’s Seven Sorrows.
Did You Know?
September is dedicated to Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows whose feast day is Sept. 15th. Images show Mary’s heart being pierced by a sword or seven swords as prophesied by Simeon when the infant Jesus was presented at the Temple. They include:
1. Prophecy of Simeon
2. Flight into Egypt
3. Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple
4. Meeting Jesus along the Way of the Cross
5. Crucifixion of Jesus
6. Descent from the Cross; Mary receives the dead body of Jesus in her arms
7. Burial of Jesus
One way to honor these sufferings Our Blessed Mother endured is by praying the The Chaplet of Seven Sorrows which consists of: the Sign of the Cross, an Act of Contrition, three Hail Mary’s, then the following prayer: Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son; Jesus. Next, pray seven sets of: one Our Father and seven Hail Mary’s and the Most Merciful Mother prayer, meditating on one sorrow per set.
