Make a Joyful Noise!!
Bring a handbell from home to Holy Thursday and the Easter Vigil and “Make a joyful noise to the Lord” (Ps. 98:6).
It’s tradition in the Church to ring bells during the Gloria on Holy Thursday and throughout the Easter Vigil liturgy. Bells are a sign of joy for the end of Lent when we sing the Gloria for the first time on Holy Thursday. At the Easter Vigil, we express our joy, by ringing bells during the Gloria, when singing the Alleluia before the Gospel, and after the Baptism of each person newly received into the Church.
