Fear is such a powerful emotion for humans that when we allow it to take us over, it drives compassion right out of our hearts.
St. Thomas Aquinas
When a neighbor calls for help there can be trepidation on the part of the Vincentian and on the part of the neighbor. The neighbor may feel some shame, embarrassment, and fear even asking for help. The Vincentian may feel a bit of fear due to the fact that we may not be able to help them, or that our help will only be a temporary solution. We pray to overcome these fears on both parts so that with humility and compassion we can serve those who need our help.
