St. Vincent de Paul

St. Vincent de Paul Update for 4/18/2021

Nothing is sweeter than love, nothing higher, nothing stronger, nothing larger, nothing more joyful, nothing fuller, nothing better in heaven or on earth; for love is born of God and can find its rest only in God above all He has created.”

Thomas A’ Kempis, The Imitation of Christ, pg. 108

We have mentioned before that we primarily help individuals and families in our area with rent, utilities, and food. In addition to this, every year we send 5 to 10 children, from the low income families that we help, to summer camp.  Camp Ozanam (named after our founder Frederic Ozanam) is located in Carsonville, MI.  There are two camp opportunities based on age:

Traditional Camp:  During this six day co-ed program, campers ages 8 to 12 have the opportunity to meet new friends, experience nature and participate in lots of activities.  Campers are encouraged to pursue their own special interest during daily activity times that might include swimming, hiking, nature study, animals, arts and crafts, drama, dance, archery, cook-outs and sports.

Adventure Camp:  Adventure Camp can include a canoe trip on the Black River to roasting s’mores at the campfire.  Campers ages 13 and 14 will explore the many skills that are essential to the camping experience for two weeks.  They cook can meals over a fire, sleep in tepees, experience team building initiatives, along with other special activities at camp.  The girls have their camp the first two weeks and the boys the second two weeks.

Due to COVID-19 camp last year was cancelled.  This year the organizers have implemented safety protocols to make the camping experience as safe as possible for the campers.  We are currently in the process of contacting our families to sign up children for camp.
