Youth Ministry Update 8/11/19

I pray everyone has had a fun and safe summer so far!  For some of us though our thoughts have started to move from summer activities to fall, especially those who need to get children ready for school.  That is no small undertaking!

On August 4 Sophia, Bill and Sue Considine hosted a pool party for SITE

Now is a good time to give an update regarding St. Isidore’s youth groups and future plans.

After prayerful discernment a decision was made by Parish Leadership to discontinue EDGE, the middle school youth group.  The thought behind the decision was the 7th and 8th graders receive instruction and various opportunities to grow in their faith through the Faith Formation and Confirmation Prep programs along with other occasions such as:  altar servers, children’s choir, VBS, etc.

The high school SITE (St. Isidore Teen Extreme) group continues to be active and will be going forward.  Once a teen completes 8th grade Faith Formation, there is no formal formation available to them outside of SITE.  We are committed to ensuring our high school teens know they are valued at our parish and we recognize the future of this community is in their hands.

The 2019 – 2020 SITE year will focus on studying and living out our faith through:  The Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy, participating in activities that deepen and strengthen their personal spirituality, being good stewards of the earth by working with St. Isidore’s Green Team and wrapping it all up with times of fun and relaxation.  Events for the remainder of August include:

  • Called To Serve Workshop (Personal Development):  8/14/19
  • Awaken (Personal Spirituality):  8/16/19
  • SITE Meeting – Recycle Crayons Project (Good Stewards / Green Team):  8/18/19
  • DIA – Symbolism in Religious Art (Personal Spirituality): 8/20/19
  • Also, look in future bulletins for details regarding an Electronic Waste Event taking place the weekend of September 21 & 22!

We know some change and decisions can be difficult.  We do believe the decisions we’ve made for the youth groups still gives both groups opportunities to grow in their faith while being good stewards of the resources we have at St. Isidore.

Anyone with questions or comments along with any high school teens interested in SITE can contact Beth at:  beth@stisidore.church or 586.286.1700 EXT 2116.
