The importance of listening to contrary voices
Thursday of the 25th Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s homily, Fr. Ron focuses on the first reading from Ecclesiastes spoken by Qoheleth. The “vanity” that Qoheleth speaks of refers to vapor or breath which means it lacks substance.
Qoheleth is known as a religious rebel. It is often said in scripture that if you follow the precepts of God , your life will be richly blessed. However, Qoheleth says that It doesn’t work that way. Good hard working people can still die young. Sometimes wicked people seem to be more greatly blessed.
Qoheleth said to embrace each day and work hard, but also enjoy the blessings God has given us like family and to help others. Fr. Ron reflects on how his contrary voice but inclusion in scripture is significant. We too need to take the time to listen to those who speak contrary to the popular beliefs.
