For this season of Advent 2025, St. Isidore will be embracing a beautiful ancient liturgical practice to help us enter more deeply into the mystery of the Eucharist. As the priest distributes Communion to the Ministers of Holy Communion, we will begin singing the Communion Antiphon proper to each Sunday of Advent.
These short Scriptural refrains, drawn from the Roman Missal and ancient tradition, are intended to focus our hearts on the sacred mystery taking place at the altar—the Lord coming to us in the Blessed Sacrament. Once all Communion ministers have received, the Antiphon will gently transition into the familiar Communion hymn as the Body of Christ is shared among us.
This simple addition will help us prepare spiritually for the coming of Christ—both in the Eucharist and at Christmas—by uniting our voices in prayer and reverence during this most holy moment of the Mass.
Let us enter this Advent season with hearts open to the presence of Christ, who comes to feed and dwell within us.
